Charles Hogan studied piano and harpsichord at the University of Kentucky, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in music. While working a doctoral degree at the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, he studied piano with Elizabeth and Eugene Pridonoff, organ with Roberta Gary and conducting with John Lehman and Elmer Thomas.
He founded the Alamance Girls’ Choir and has taught at such institutions as Elon University (NC), the University of Dayton (OH), Earlham College (IN) and the University of Kentucky. He chairs the committee that oversees the North American training courses for the Royal School of Church Music, serves as the course manager for the Carolina Course for Girls & Adults and co-directs Carolina Organ Institute, where he previously served as assistant music director and organist.
Charles has performed around the eastern United States, in London and in Paris as a pianist, organist and collaborator with his wife, mezzo-soprano Hallie Coppedge Hogan, and he has received numerous commissions for compositions.
Charles was born in Buffalo, New York, but grew up in the mountains of West Virginia.
