A Ceremony of Carols

Tuesday, December 17, 12:10 p.m.
Seventy-one years ago, in 1942, Benjamin Britten composed A Ceremony of Carols. For four decades, the sopranos and altos of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir have presented this masterpiece, considered one of the loveliest of the season. The text is gloriously medieval in spirit – joyous, mysterious and deceptively simple. Its framework is quasi-liturgical. This year’s performance will feature Elizabeth Motter on harp.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Sunday, December 22, 5 p.m.
Dating back to 1918, where it was developed and first performed at King’s College in Cambridge, England, A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols takes an imaginative approach to liturgy, weaving together scripture and song, moving from prophecy to fulfillment, to tell the story of the birth of Jesus.
