The Spiritual Life Strategy

This summary on the Spiritual Life strategy, from the cathedral's One Page Strategic Plan, was written to give a better understanding of the process that led to its development. --Editor

Objective: We will strengthen our identity by exploring and enriching our spiritual growth, broadening our understanding of what it means to be a part of this Cathedral community, and focusing our resources to serve the common good more effectively.

Strategy # 1

We will work together to be a living Christian community in the Episcopal tradition welcoming a variety of forms of worship and spiritual engagement which transform us individually and focus on the church's relevance in today's society.

Worship/Spiritual Growth is central to the mission of "The Church" and interfaces with and develops parallel to many of the ideas and visions in the additional four strategies. Very little in this entire plan stands "alone." We are all branches of the same tree with the same roots.

  • All worship and spiritual development needs to be in the context of the canons of the Anglican Church, The Episcopal Church USA and the Book of Common Prayer.
  • "Adjust" the liturgical offerings to be meaningful and desirable for the different constituencies of the community within the parameters outlined above.
  • Strength is achieved with a reference to a particular level of professionalism. (Whatever is done needs to be of good quality.)
  • An important component is that which the individual brings to the experience on a continuing basis.
  • The participant needs to be self-motivated, committed and involved.
