"Strive for the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way."

Youth Scholarships
The Camping and Youth Opportunities Committee of the cathedral is accepting scholarship applications from youth who have been confirmed and who actively participate in parish life.
Scholarships are to be based on need, merit and service as judged by the committee. Any high school senior planning to attend a two or four year program at an accredited educational institution is encouraged to apply. Students already enrolled in college will also be considered. Students will need to re-apply for these funds each year.
Scholarships may be granted to reduce the amount a student has to borrow on a student loan, to supplement other grants or to reduce the financial burden of college on parents. The cathedral wants to help make students' educational experience a success as they prepare for the future.
The application deadline has been extended. They must be postmarked or hand delivered to the cathedral office by no later than noon of Sunday, May 26.
Mission Statement
The cathedral empowers our youth to live according to the teachings and example of Jesus and prepares them for a Christ-filled life journey. We do this through activities, discussion and reflection regarding the Bible and Christian lifestyle and through opportunities to live out God's call to all Christians that we be the yes, hands and feet of Jesus in the world.
The Youth Band
Our youth band is getting off the ground and excited to begin playing music together. We play music from various rock-n-roll genres, classic and contemporary Christian hits, along with traditional Episcopal hymns with a fresh sound.
Band practices are on Wednesdays, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. All youth are invited to participate. Our youth band is looking for a drummer, a pianist, and youth with singing experience. We will also incorporate any of the other musical talents of our youth into the band.
Overview of the Youth Program
Our youth programs help young people meet the challenges of their lives in a manner that promotes health and wholeness, self-respect and respect of others. We also offer special activities for fun or service. For more information about our youth ministry or any youth event, contact director of youth ministries Slocomb Reed.
Youth Liturgy
On Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., Christ Church Cathedral offers a special worship opportunity for our youth grades six through 12. The Youth Liturgy is a supplemental Liturgy of the Word for our youth involving contemporary music led by our Youth Band, activity – and conversation – based study of lessons from the 10 a.m. service, and youth-led prayer. The Youth Liturgy runs concurrent to the 10 a.m. service, and afterwards, our youth rejoin their families for the remainder of the service.
Note: There will be no Youth Liturgy until September 8.
Opportunities to be Lay Ministers
In addition to the opportunities offered in the Youth Liturgy, youth can serve as acolytes, lay readers and chalice bearers on Sunday mornings during the regular services. For more information, contact Canon Nancy Turner Jones.
